From: iczerako@u.washington.edu (M Stage) Subject: Re: Air elementals Date: 14 Jan 2000 13:35:04 GMT Under the new speed system, monsters with a speed of 36 get exactly 3 moves to a normal-speed character's move, and approximately 1.8 moves to a speed-booted character's moves. They get 3 (2) moves in a row often. In any case, player moves are interspersed with monster moves rather than occuring two in a row. 'Moves' means that movemon() is invoked, which runs the entire move chain. Under the old speed system, movemon was called once a turn at normal speed, once every other turn at speed-boot speed. Fast monsters received 2 invocations of dochugw() per movemon call, and, if mmove-12 > rnd(12), monsters received an additional invocation of m_move in dochug(). dochug, called from dochugw, performs most attacks. So monsters with mmove 36 could move two squares in their turn, but only attack once. Air elementals in 322 could move at 2:1 vs normal speed characters and 1:1 vs very fast characters, and attack at 1:1 and 1:2 respectively. Air elementals in 330 can move at 3:1 (1.8:1) and attack at 3:1 (1.8:1), so they are 260% deadlier for speed-booted characters, I suppose.
