nethack spoiler site http://www.nethack.de/ Maintainer: Sascha Wostmann (sascha@nethack.de) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Luck by Donald Welsh Starting luck is +1 on a full moon, -1 on Friday the 13th, 0 if both or neither. The various actions which raise or lower luck are documented elsewhere. Exact probabilities are omitted; best consult the source if you're interested. Rare events do happen. Your luck affects your chances at ... - avoiding getting caught when setting a landmine or bear trap. - angering a monster caught by your trap. - disarming a shooting trap. - pacifying a non-human monster you have freed from a trap. - pacifying a non-human by attempting and failing to lift it out of a (pit) trap you did not set. - a Lawful character getting an alignment bonus for helping something out of a trap. - avoiding the worst effects of a chest trap. - escaping a chest trap completely. - getting your worst trouble fixed by your god although you've strayed. - having a minion summoned against you when converting an altar (successfully or not). - angering your god by praying in Gehennom. - water damage to non-blessed items. - rusting blessed armor. - splintering a boomerang when bashing with it. - writing a scroll or spellbook you haven't learned yet. - snaring an object from the floor with a bullwhip when levitating. - finding a hidden trap, secret door or corridor when searching. - kicking open a door. - opening a door. - creating a golem when polypiling. - getting a tame or peaceful daughter worm when splitting a tame or peaceful long worm. Other effects of luck: - If you are jerked into a pool, pit, etc., by a heavy iron ball, and there is a monster standing on the chain, it will be woken if sleeping. If the monster was also paralyzed, it may be unfrozen. - If you are entombed, can teleport, but don't have teleport control, luck may allow you to attempt a teleport spell. - Kicking loose coins & gems from a throne never works if luck is negative -- instead the throne is destroyed. The number of gems kicked loose is Luck + 1, with a maximum of six. - Luck affects base chance to hit when throwing. - Quaffing from a magic fountain never works as a potion of restore ability when luck is bad. - Bad luck precludes plusses on wished-for items. - Blessed/cursed status of wished-for items depends on luck. - Rustproof/fireproof status of wished-for items requires good luck. - Poisoned status of wished-for items requires not having bad luck. - When angering the gods, luck affects by how much they are angered. - When your god is pleased, luck affects how much help you get. If your luck isn't bad, you are guaranteed rescue from your worst major problem. - When your god gives you a pat on the head, luck determines how good it can be. - Bad luck will cause your prayer to fail. - Sometimes, if your luck is bad, a wand of wishing won't give a wish. -- NH 3.2.2D D Fangboner-E [+ )+ P S+ ?D p+ $++ t+ s++ W+/++ E- PS-- PP++ G !C I+++ !@W N b?
